Meet someone new over a random video chat — no account required.
Type whatever name you'd like others to see during the call. You can use your real name, a nickname, or anything you like. This is not stored anywhere after the session.
Min Active Users — The minimum number of people that must be in a room before you'll be matched into it. Set this higher if you want a livelier group before you join.
Max Active Users — The maximum room size. This caps how many people can be in the same call. Smaller numbers mean more intimate conversations.
The app looks for an existing room that fits your preferences. If one is found, you'll be connected. If not, a new room is created and you'll be placed in it — others with matching preferences will join you shortly.
Your browser will ask for permission to use your camera and microphone. You must allow both to participate in the video call.
You're now in a live video call with real people. You can mute yourself, turn off your camera, or use the chat feature using the controls inside the call window.
If you prefer not to show live video, you can use an avatar instead. Turn off your camera using the camera button in the call controls and set a profile picture through the call settings — others will see your avatar image rather than a live feed.
Click the red hang-up button inside the call window to end the session and return to the main screen. You can then join another room anytime.
Three buttons appear at the top of the call screen, next to each other:
Change Room — Leaves your current room and matches you into a new one, using the same Min/Max Active Users preferences you set at the start. Use this to talk to someone new without going back to the main screen.
Block User — Lets you pick someone currently in the call and block them. Once blocked, you'll never be matched into a room together again, in either direction. Blocking is private — the other person is never told they were blocked, and it doesn't end your current call by itself.
Report User — Lets you pick someone currently in the call, choose a reason (harassment, nudity or sexual content, underage user, spam, or other), and add optional details. Reporting also blocks them automatically, so you won't need to block separately. Use this for behavior that goes beyond "I'd rather not match with this person" — reports are reviewed by us.
Everyone you've blocked is listed on the main screen — look for the Blocked Users link in the footer, next to "How It Works" and "Privacy Policy." From there you can see who you've blocked, when, and why, and unblock anyone you'd like to be matched with again.
Use headphones to avoid echo. Make sure you're in a well-lit area so others can see you clearly. A stable Wi-Fi connection gives the best video quality.
Talk With Strangers is also available as a mobile app for Android and iOS, with the same features and the same random matching system.
If you run into any issues, try refreshing the page and joining again. Make sure your browser has permission to use your camera and microphone in your device settings.
